Learn More About AppKIDS
AppKIDS is an annual program organized by Appalachian State University's Staff Senate that provides winter clothing, hygiene essentials and snacks to 100 K–12 students from Watauga County Schools. Through generous donations, university-affiliated volunteers shop for each student's needed items. The program culminates in AppKIDS Day, when participating students visit campus to enjoy activities and connect with groups and organizations from across the university.
Introducing AppKIDS Hickory
AppKIDS Hickory is kicking off its very first event on October 29, bringing 3rd graders from Longview Elementary School to the Hickory campus for a fun, fall‑themed celebration. The campus will host a Fall Festival filled with activities, school‑supply giveaways, and cozy App State hoodies to help welcome these students into the Mountaineer community. This launch marks an exciting expansion of AppKIDS and its commitment to supporting local schools and families.

Your donation makes a difference and is tax-deductible. Contributions can be made by:
- Donate Online
- Check: Payable to App State Foundation with "AppKIDS donation" in the memo line.
- Mail to: Staff Senate, ASU Box 9137, Boone, NC 28608
- Cash: Accepted via departmental collection envelopes this fall.
- Payroll Deduction: Appalachian employees can pledge as little as $5/month (6-month minimum, must renew annually).
- Set up via App State Self-Service (Employee tab > Payroll > ASU Foundation Payroll Deduction).
- Be sure to enter AppKIDS Fund #992568 in the donation form.

- wrapping paper
- shampoo and conditioner
- toothpaste
- toothbrushes
- hair brushes/combs
- bar soap
- deodorant sticks (no sprays)
- snacks (crackers, goldfish, trail mix, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc)

Volunteer Opportunities
We are seeking volunteers to help with this event by shopping for items or providing support for the Boone campus event.
Community Service Leave may be used for these volunteer opportunities
- Shop for AppKIDS - Sign up to be a volunteer shopper. Shopping dates are November 4 through 20, 2026.
- AppKIDS Day on App State's Boone Campus - Sign up to be a volunteer during the in-person event on the Boone Campus!
- The in-person event will be held at Grandview Ballroom on November 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
